Since you're both a mohel and a doctor, can we get partial reimbursement from our health insurance coverage?
Yes! Since Dr. Katz is both a Certified Mohel and a Board-Certified Pediatrician, he can provide you with a medical receipt for the circumcision procedure. This is the way it works: After you pay Dr. Katz at the bris, his office will mail you a medical receipt with the proper medical procedure code for circumcision. You submit the receipt directly to your insurance company for possible partial reimbursement. If they cover the procedure, they will mail you a reimbursement check. If they mistakenly mail the reimbursement check to Dr. Katz, he will promptly forward it to you.
If you want to try to find out ahead of time how much your insurance company will reimburse you, you may call your insurance company, and ask them if they cover circumcisions, and how much they reimburse for it.
Generally, they do not reimburse the full charge of the bris, because a bris involves much more than just a hospital circumcision. Also, if your health insurance plan is an "HMO", they may only offer reimbursement if your primary care physician does the procedure. Check with them for their rules.
